The New Media Breakdown #01
Scarlett Johansson, Google, OpenAI, xAI, TikTok
Welcome to the first edition of the weekly MECHANIZED MEDIA New Media Breakdown, where we summarize the most important topics of the week in AI, Social Media, and Online Marketing.
2024 will be remembered as the year in which everything changed. While last year saw AI taking its first baby steps, this year it will radically change the way we work across all sectors, but especially media and content production, which will never be the same.
Headlines of the Week
OpenAI released GPT-4o with previous premium features for free! This includes the ability to browse the internet, custom GPS, vision, and data analysis.
Elon Musk's AI startup, xAI, has raised $6 billion to aggressively compete with rivals including OpenAI, Microsoft, and Alphabet.

Scarlett Johansson Is Spreading Fake News
According to documents and recordings shared with the Washington Post, OpenAI didn’t copy Scarlett Johansson’s voice. But thanks to Johansson, the voice actress who actually recorded the voice might have trouble finding work now.
What's most disturbing about all this to me is how ready the public was to jump on this fake story simply because they felt like it, without actually listening to the chatbot or bothering to compare. Everyone who did can clearly hear a difference. This also shows how much people hate the idea of AI in general. It indicates that before this technology is widely accepted, there will be many battles to fight.
If the general public knew even half of the capabilities we take for granted in our little bubble, all hell would break loose. Luckily, most people are not able to get into things like that by themselves, which, of course, means they will in turn believe whatever people like Scarlett Johansson tell them to think.
If you are publicly using AI, there will come a moment when people might turn against you. Many of us here on X have already experienced a glimpse of that, but I believe there is way more drama to come.
